The Gravity Sewer South Interceptor Relocation and Pump Station H Site Modifications Project were designed to relocate an existing section of the 63-inch Sewer Interceptor along Oakport Street south of High Street. This will allow the future rebuild of the elevated portion of the 880 Freeway at High Street as planned by CALTRANS at Oakland, Ca.

As part of the new improvements for this project approximately 1,100 feet of 66-inch diameter Reinforced Concrete Pipe Sewer System was installed at an average depth of 25 feet, two large tie-in concrete structures and three manholes were built. The existing Pump Station H was improved by installing new fencing, automated operated gates and utility improvements. The Oakport Diversion Structure was improved by adding a new level monitoring station to monitor sewer levels in the Interceptor system. The project had great challenges while performing the pipeline installation in an area with limited construction space and a busy arterial street with heavy traffic at rush hour. Also, the sewage flows in the existing 63-inch interceptor were shut down during low flow conditions at night to tie in existing services into the new gravity sewer interceptor with restricted time duration.
